Sony Introduces VR Headset For PS4, Dooms Us All
Haven’t they seen Lawnmower Man? Read any dystopian cyberpunk. This kind of thing never goes well.
Sony’s new offering for the PS4, unveiled at this week’s Game Developer Conference, is called Project Morpheus. Yes, they named it after the god of dreams and sleep. We’re all going to become VR junkies, aren’t we?
It’s an innocuous-looking enough device. As someone who has been following cyberpunk for nearly three decades now I’m a bit disappointed. I was promised big bulky gloves, damn it!
Instead of the gloves, Project Morpheus will work with PlayStation controllers and the PlayStation Move. According to the announcement it features:
• A head mounted display with 1080p resolution and a 90 degree field of view.
• Accelerometer and gyroscope sensors built into the head mounted unit as well as PlayStation Camera accurately tracks head orientation and movement, so as your head rotates, the image of the virtual world rotates intuitively in real-time.
• New 3D audio technology that re-creates stereoscopic sounds in all directions and changes in real-time depending on your head orientation.
Fears of annihilation aside, it does seem like a pretty cool device. Eh, maybe the Matrix won’t be so bad.

I knew that you'd come back here after CBR banned your ass. Guess you really are the type who just needs attention on the 'net all of the time.
