Let’s Guess Which D.C. Superhero the Rock is Playing
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, a former wrestler know for his appreciation of cooking and smells, is probably going to play a superhero in an upcoming D.C. movie. Which one is still to be revealed, but he’s been dropping some broad hints about it.
“The first quality we were looking for was that he had to be extremely complex and have a lot going on. What that does for me as an actor and the studio is it gives us space that we can explore his complexities,” Johnson explained
“The other quality was that he had to — the character we were looking for had to be well-known but never brought to life,” he went on to add. “What that does again as an actor, it gives me a little bit of space, and we talked about personality. It just gives me a chance to put an imprint into his personality, with the set of tools that I could bring to the table and put a very unique twist on his personality, but still pay homage to who he is.”
And also, the character had to be “had to be a badass motherfucker” and “on a Superman level of power.”
Oh, I’ve got it. He’s going to be Vibe, the breakdancing superhero!
Actually, Captain Marvel is an obvious choice. He’s had screen appearances, but they’re minor and obscure enough to be forgotten. He’s relatively complex with the whole boy in man’s body thing. He’s certainly as strong as Superman. The Hollywood Reporter dismisses that suggestion because Johnson also says the character needs to be a “badass motherfucker,” but they obviously know less about comics than Johnson and have missed the last 20 years of D.C. Comics trying to darken all of its characters, even sweet, pure Billy Batson.
The John Stewart Green Lantern is another suggestion that works well. The Rock is a big fan, Stewart is very complex, and Stewart has only been “brought to life” in animation. But if that happens it’ll be a character in another movie, such as a Justice League movie. I doubt we’ll see a new Green Lantern movie with a new lead character any time soon, but if the Green Lantern Corps shows up in a Superman or Justice League movie …
So those are the obvious candidates. But then again, it may end up being a character completely out of left field. If it really is Vibe I win the internet. What do you think?
