Far Cry 4 Announced + Ubisoft Update
Far Cry 4 Announced
Far Cry 4 has finally been officially announced by Ubisoft. Over the past months there has been widespread speculation that Far Cry 4 was in development, as well as rumours that the game would be set in the Himalayas. Ubisoft confirmed that the game is in development at Ubisoft Montreal and that the speculated location of the game was correct – Far Cry 4 will be set in the Himalayas, more specifically in Kyrat.
Ubisoft also offered a release date for Far Cry 4, which will be released on PlayStation 3 & 4, XBox 360 & Xbox One, as well as Windows PC. Far Cry 4 will launch on November 18th in the US, followed by November 20th in EMEA territory. It seems Ubisoft has omitted the Wii U from another major release, dealing the struggling console another blow, even though Ubisoft Montreal’s last game, Child of Light, was released on the Nintendo console.
The artwork above is the only asset released by Ubisoft at present and shows Far Cry 4s colourful new villain who, according to Ubisoft, is the “despotic self-appointed king” of Kyrat. The new location is a far cry (see what I did there?) from Far Cry 3s bright tropical islands and lush forests but does offer the potential for some very interesting gameplay options – Skiing and snowmobiles anyone? Rideable elephants were also mentioned during the initial wave of leaked information.
Tom Clancy’s The Division pushed back to 2015
There have also been other pieces of news from Ubisoft – most notably the widely expected push back for Tom Clancy’s 3rd person MMO game The Division into early 2015. Allegations from insiders at the Massive Games studio, one of the lead studios working on The Division, previously suggested the game had no chance of meeting its Q4 2014 release date and it certainly appears that information was correct.
The official website for The Division states that we will see more of the game at E3 next month – the most recent wave of screenshots and videos for the game were all engine tech demos, so hopefully we’ll get to see some in-game footage or gameplay this time round.
Watch Dogs Breaks Ubisoft Pre-Order Records
Ubisoft also announced today through their UbiBlog that Watch Dogs is “the most pre-ordered new IP in the company’s history (and the second most pre-ordered Ubisoft game, period)”. The game releases in less than 2 weeks now after a delay that saw the game slip back from launching alongside the Xbox One and PS4 launches last year until May of this year. Ubisoft said the delay was to make sure the game was fully polished and to ensure quality and produce the best game possible.
There’s certainly a huge expectation on Watch Dogs when it releases and there have been recent debates and discrepancies surrounding the frame rate and graphical performance of the game on next generation consoles. We’ll have the full review of Watch Dogs nearer to the May 27th launch date, but it’s safe to say that we’re super hyped for what could be one of the best new IPs since the critically acclaimed PS3 exclusive The Last of Us.
