Child of Light Coming to PlayStation Vita
Ubisoft has today confirmed via its UbiBlog that the highly-rated downloadable RPG Child of Light will be coming to PlayStation Vita on 1 July 2014. Child of Light was released to high critical response at the end of April on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, achieving an impressive Metacritic score of 89 on PlayStation 3. There’s no word at present as to whether the boxed-with-download-code collector’s edition will be released for the Vita as it was on the other platforms.
Child of Light will cost $14.99 when it comes to the PlayStation Store in July. In the post by Ubisoft’s Communications Specialist Anne Lewis she gives a brief overview of Child of Light for anyone unfamiliar with the game. She says “Young Aurora wakes up in a strange land where all light has been stolen from the sky. Before she can return to her home, she must return the Moon, Sun and Stars and free the kingdom of Lemuria from Queen Umbra’s influence. Built on the UbiArt Framework and inspired by epic poetry and dark fairytales, Child of Light is truly a work of art brought to life – and now it’s a work of art you can bring with you wherever you go.”
The update also includes the following Accolades Trailer to mark Child of Light coming to PlayStation Vita.
What’s perhaps more interesting for many rather than the direct announcement of the game coming to the PlayStation Vita is that the news shows Ubisoft continues to support the flagging device during a time when other developers and publishers are shying away from Vita ports and releases. In the past, Ubisoft has shown strong support for Sony‘s handheld console releasing the originally Vita-exclusive Assassin’s Creed Liberation, which later came to PS3 and Xbox 360 in a HD port.
It makes sense to port the game over to Vita, given that Child of Light is built using the UbiArt framework already seen on the Vita in Rayman Legends and Origins. It remains to be seen whether Ubisoft will commit to producing another exclusive game for the console, but if Sony and Ubisoft could build upon their strong relationship and reach an agreement, a Vita version of Watch Dogs or another Assassin’s Creed game would certainly be potential system sellers for the console.
