Destiny beta progress will not carry over to the main game
Any progress players have made in the Destiny beta will not carry over into the full game when it releases in September. Bungie designer, Tyson Green, explained in a post on the Bungie website that users will have to create a new character rather than simply continuing with the one they have already used. This means that the early missions in Destiny will have to be replayed.
According to the developer, it was simply not possible for progress to cross over to the full game. The number of changes made to the gameplay and to behind the scenes mechanics means that beta characters would be skewed. There was also a hint that experience may have been sped up in the beta to allow players to level up slightly faster.
“Since the Beta, we’ve continued to tune and adjust the game,” said Tyson Green. “The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.”
Previously, Bungie had said that they were unsure whether characters from the beta would transfer to Destiny. They did though make it clear that no decision had been made and that it would depend entirely on any modifications made in response to the beta. There will have been plenty of feedback available from the pre-release version of the game. Over 4.5 million people played the beta in July, making it the largest open beta in history according to Activision.
Destiny will launch September 9 and will come in a variety of editions. It will be available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
