Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Season Pass announced
Warner Bros. has revealed that the upcoming Lord of the Rings game, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, will come with a season pass that will make extra content available to users. The pass will be available from launch and will grant immediate access to the exclusive mission ‘Guardians of the Flaming Eye’.
Buyers will also get early access to the ‘Trials of War’ challenge mode and a set of future missions including ‘Lord of the Hunt’ and ‘The Bright Lord’. Warner Bros. also announced that further content will be unlocked through having the Season Pass, such as player skins, and that they will release more details in the future.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a new action-RPG set in the Lord of the Rings universe. It takes place in the years between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings with a completely original story. However, the writers have taken special care to ensure that none of the plot details contradict the official canon from J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, instead if will be a complimentary tale. The developers choose to work on their own story to give them more creative freedom and allow them to explore areas in Middle-earth not explored in the books.
In the game, players will take the role of a ranger who guards the Black Gate of Mordor. The protagonist is killed during his mission but is revived, with similar abilities as the Ringwraiths, and travels back into Mordor in order to exact his revenge on his killers.
The title was originally set to launch October 7 in the U.S. but is now set to launch a week earlier after the publisher brought forward the release date. While this was said to be due to fan excitement, it is much more likely that is has been done to avoid a filled October calendar. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will be available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
