Video Games: The Movie Features All-Star Lineup of Geek Icons
Anchor Bay Entertainment and Amplify have officially announced the upcoming release of the new documentary Video Games: The Movie. The film is set for a release on DVD and Blu-ray on February 3. The film features an all-star lineup of geek icons who worked on it. Video Games the movie is executive produced by Zach Braff (Garden State, Scrubs) and features narration by Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings, Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The film takes a look back at the development of video games as a niche activity for nerds to a multi-biollion dollar industry.
The documentary will feature interviews with the godfathers of video game design, the designers who are taking the industry into the future and other geek notables including Nolan Bushnell (Atari, Inc.), The Nerdist himself Chris Hardwick, Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War, Unreal), Warren Spector (Epic Mickey, Deus Ex), Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Resident Evil), Doug Tennapel (Earthworm Jim), Alison Haislip (Attack of the Show) and Palmer Luckey (Oculus Rift). The film was funded via a campaign through Kickstarter and raised over $100,000 in five weeks.
The special features for the release include a mash-up featurette called Why We Love by Sean Astin. Video Games: The Movie will hit the shelves on February 3 for a suggested retail price of $22.98.
