2K Games Announces Mafia III
2K Games has officially announced Mafia III on their Twitter account, revealing that further information about the title will be released in the coming week. However, information on the game’s website does state that Hangar 13 rather than 2K Czech is the developer behind Mafia III, headed by former LucasArts employee Haden Blackman. The official trailer for the game is set to release on August 5 at the game’s YouTube channel.

“Mafia III is the next installment in the popular series known for immersing players into a world of organized crime through rich narrative storytelling and a beautifully crafted game world featuring period-accurate cars, music, and fashion,” 2K said in a statement.
Rumors of a third Mafia game have been circulating for some time, leading to speculation that the title was actually in development. Last month, a NeoGAF user researching the sequel revealed that publisher 2K Games had registered several domain names associated with the Mafia 3 name and pointed them to their own server. This, coupled with the rumors, seemed to indicate that an announcement was due very soon.
The Mafia series is a third-person shooter and action-adventure franchise that has been well praised by critics and has been one of 2K Games best performers in terms of sales. The games, which see players interact with the mafia in the 1940s and 1950s in a variety of cities such as New York and Chicago.
