Another Zelda Multiplayer Game Could Happen Next
It looks like Nintendo is open to doing another type of multiplayer game for The Legend of Zelda franchise after the next installment in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The new installment was showcased at E3 this year and is due out later in 2017. Speaking to IGN, producer Eiji Aonuma said he would like to work on another multiplayer Zelda game next.
Aonuma said, “I would like to take what I learned from Breath of the Wild and see if we can somehow fuse those learning points into another multiplayer Zelda. That’s definitely a possibility and we will continue to [experiment] throughout the Zelda franchise.”
Zelda games in the past have featured multiplayer elements. So Nintendo trying something else out with multiplayer for the Zelda franchise wouldn’t be a radical departure. Tri Force Heroes, Four Swords Adventures, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks all featured multiplayer. Even The Wind Waker had some limited multiplayer elements.
It will be interesting to see what Aonuma has in mind next for the Zelda franchise. Meanwhile, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled for a 2017 release. The game is being developed for Nintendo Wii U, and Nintendo’s next hardware console, which is codenamed the NX.
