Arrow Producers Admit Flaw In Current Season
When Arrow launched on CW, part of the hook of the show was that it dealt with two ongoing storylines. One was Oliver Queen in the present as the Arrow, and the other was Oliver Queen on the island of Lian Yu learning to become the Arrow.
This was very unique at the time, and as the seasons went on, both the main story and the island story were both distant yet very connected. This year though, many fans including myself note how sluggish and very bland the flashbacks are. This is coming off last years where though it was important, it seemed to drag a lot.
Talking to TVLine, the Executive Producers of the show admitted that this year was definitely a low point for the flashbacks:
“Part of the appeal of the flashbacks – certainly in the first two years, but I think the first three years – is seeing what a big difference Arrowit is between Oliver Queen in the present day and Oliver Queen five years ago,” EP Marc Guggenheim shared. “The problem is that we are telling a five-year story in the flashbacks of Oliver becoming the guy you met in the pilot. So the deeper you get into the flashbacks, the closer he becomes to being that guy, and, thus, you lose that element of the flashbacks that was so interesting, which is how different he was…. That’s something we have struggled with this year.”
With this being season 04, and season 05 confirmed to be happening, this means that next will be the final season on the island. And it’s been stated that it will be about Oliver in Russia being with the Bratva. Here’s hoping it has more of an impact.
