Benicio Del Toro Says He’s Playing the Villain in Star Wars: Episode VIII
Actor Benicio Del Toro has revealed some more details on his upcoming role in the new Star Wars sequel, Star Wars: Episode VIII. The new film will be written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper). It will probably come as no surprise that Benicio Del Toro will be playing a villain in the story, at least according to his own statements. In an interview with the Spanish website rac1.org, Del Toro revealed: “Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out. I think we start shooting in March. I’m like the villain, but we’ll see.”
Hopefully, Del Toro’s involvement in this picture will be a little more substantial than his appearance as The Collector in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. His role there ended up being little more than a glorified cameo. It will be interesting to find out more about Del Toro’s character, including his connection, if any, and potential interaction with the new villains of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, including Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke.
The first of the new Star Wars Trilogy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18. This will be followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII, written and directed by Rian Johnson, on May 26, 2017. Finally, Star Wars: Episode IX will be released in 2019. The film will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World).
