Carlos Valdes Talks Flash Series Doing Flashpoint
Whatever you think about the second season of Flash, it’s fair to say that what happened at the end was not only shocking, but a callout to a certain piece of Flash history. Flashpoint.
In the show, after defeating Zoom (but losing his father), Barry Allen decides that the pain of not having either parent is so great that he races back in time to the night his mother was murdered and stops it from happening. Especially rewriting all of history in a Flash…sorry, couldn’t resist.
A similar event happened in the comics, called Flashpoint, and as we would find out: this was a terrible mistake by Barry. As this “change” altered the entire timeline for the worse. Including the Justice League never forming, and some of its members being either dead, or dictators at war.
While it’s fair to say that kind of impact (due to rights and character inclusions) won’t be happening in Flash Season 03, many are wondering just what will happen.
At Megacon, Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon on Flash, noted what might happen, and that regardless of what happens, they’ll honor the comics that led the way for the event.
“I think there’s every chance of a Flashpoint paradox,” Valdes said. “Some people expressed reservation about that — why are we going there? — but then some people were all about it. I think I can say this without a doubt: wherever we go from here, it’s going to be unique and it’s going to be different and it’s going to honor the original chronology and the original lore while at the same time, writing a new spin on it. I think it’s that spirit that’s allowed our shows to do as well as they do, so I ask the fandom to have faith.”
