Channing Tatum Set to Play Gambit Again, Resolves Conflicts With 20th Century Fox
Despite being named to the role months ago, and him appearing at San Diego Comic-Con recently to show off his preparation for Gambit, there were a lot of rumors going around that Channing Tatum was going to be leaving the Gambit movie via a breakdown of negotiations. Well, you can breathe easy now, as Tatum has officially locked down his deal to be the card chucking, explosive, fan-favorite Cajun X-Man, per The Hollywood Reporter.
So, what were the causes of the rumors then? Well, it was actually a couple of things apparently. Ironically, it had nothing to do with him playing Gambit in the solo film. More accurately, it was about how much he would be playing Gambit outside of the solo film. While X-Men is still rolling on and Deadpool on the way, Hugh Jackman is still preparing to play Wolverine one last time, so Fox wanted to have Gambit fill a void that was going to be opening up. This meant both more movies and potential crossovers for Gambit.
However, though not exactly surprising, this lead to conversations about compensation for the other films Tatum would be doing. Now, everything seems to be worked out, and fans can all look for Channing Tatum playing Gambit when the movie releases on Oct. 7th, 2016.
