Coming up in Gaming – June
Although June will be marked in a lot of gamers diaries it will generally not be for game releases as it is the month that will see hundreds of new titles announced at E3. That hasn’t stopped some publishers from pushing out their big hitters though, with some highly anticipated titles on the way.
Big Games
June’s biggest launch is without a double Batman: Arkham Knight. The latest instalment in the Arkham series from developer Rocksteady Studios has been eagerly anticipated for several years and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from June 23. It is the final game the British studio will be working on in the Batman franchise and sees the player ake on the role of the Dark Knight as they attempt to stop Scarecrow and the mysterious Arkham Knight as they look to terrorize Gotham.
As well as Batman: Arkham Knight, the other big release for June is The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. The MMO version of the hit role-playing franchise from Bethesda was first released for PC in 2014 but has since been renamed and redeveloped so that it can be made available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on June 9. It features a separate story from any of the previous entries in the series, whereby players have to attempt to capture the Imperial throne for their faction and stop a Daedric Prince named Molag Bal. Unlike many other MMOs, Tamriel Unlimited will not feature a monthly subscription fee with the only cost being the initial purchase of the title.
Mortal Kombat X is also seeing another release. It has already been available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC since April but will be available for Xbox 360 owners from June 2, with development studio High Voltage bringing the ultra-violent fighting game to last generation consoles. A PlayStation 3 port will following at some point later in the year but there is no firm release date as of yet.
Another highly anticipated title coming in June is Massive Chalice. Developed by Tim chafer’s Double Fine Productions, who have been responsible for games such as Psychonauts, The Cave and Broken Age, it was originally due to release in 2014 but was delayed to allow the team to beta test the title and allow for further polish. Massive Chalice is a unique take on the turn-based strategy genre with the players able to produce new offspring with their own heroes. It will be available from June 1 on all PC, Mac and Xbox One.
Finally, players will be able to take get their hands on a number of remastered and ultimate edition of games. Both Payday 2: Crimewave Edition and Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition will release on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One on June 16 and June 23 respectively. These will be joined by the very latest LEGO game in the form of LEGO Jurassic World on June 12, which as you might expect will be available on every available platform, including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS and PS Vita.

Free Games
As usual, Microsoft are making a collection of games available to Xbox Live Gold members throughout June through their Games With Gold program. Xbox One players will once again be able to download Pool Nation FX. The pool simulator has been on Games With Gold since its release in April and isn’t going anywhere just yet. Despite the fact it’s been free for several months, it’s still a very disappointing thanks to hugely excessive load times and a whole host of bugs and physics problems.
The bigger news for the Xbox One is that Massive Chalice is also going to be available to download for free. Although no firm release date has been given yet, it releases on PC and Mac on June 1, it will hit the store sometime this month and will be free for 30 days from that date and thereafter $19.99. The title is a turn-based strategy game where you take the role of an immortal God-like figure and must defend against enemies over the course of hundreds of years.
Xbox 360 users will have the opportunity to grab the fun open-world action title Just Cause 2 for the first half of the month, a game that was well received by critics and was praised for its outlandish action sequences and entertaining gameplay. From June 16, players will also be able to download and keep Thief, the 2014 reboot of the series.
On the other hand, PlayStation owners who have a PlayStation Plus subscription have six games that will be available to download in June. The two biggest releases are Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Skulls of the Shogun. Ground Zeroes is essentially a glorified tech demo for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain whereas Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition is a turn-based strategy game that tasks players with fighting undead enemies with Japanese fighters such as samurai.
The other titles include Super Exploding Zoo for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, Futuridium EP Deluxe for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for PlayStation 3 and finally Cloudberry Kingdom for the PlayStation 3.
