Destiny To Get Microtransactions Very Soon
Bungie has revealed that their sci-fi shooter Destiny will soon get is own set of microtransactions. According to the developer, NPC vendor Tess Everis will arrive back in The Tower on October 13 and will offer a storefront that sells 18 different emotes, which can be bought with a new currency called silver. This currency will only be able to be collected through purchases with real-world money on the PlayStation or Xbox online marketplaces, though players will get some complimentary silver to spend to see exactly how the system works.
“If you’re not interested in what Tess has to offer, you won’t ever be forced to pluck an item off of her shelf,” Bungie added. “You’ll still receive updates to the game, and you won’t lose a Crucible encounter or fail to clear a Raid because you didn’t have the right Eververse Trading Company emote equipped.”
“If you’re still skeptical, you can log in next week and take a look for yourself. We’ll be dropping some free Silver into your account so you can purchase an emote or two and become legend through the power of dance.”
Money gained from these microtransactions, which could later be expanded into other cosmetic items such as shaders and emblems, will be used to create further content. Recent reports from Kotaku seem to indicate that Bungie will not be releasing any more expansions for Destiny up until the release of the sequel next year but will instead publish a series of free story content and missions every few months.
