Doctor Strange: Community Creator Brought on as Writer
It seems an interesting face was brought on to help punch up the writing for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Doctor Strange movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Harmon, the co-creator of the beloved TV series Community, was brought on to write some additional material for Doctor Strange. The article seems to suggest he did some last-minute writing for the film’s reshoots.
Harmon previously did some uncredited writing for films such as Kung Fu Panda and Monster House. Of course, he has another association with Marvel Studios. He worked with Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed episodes of Community. The Russo brothers went on to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. They are currently working on Captain America: Infinity War.
Harmon was reportedly brought in as a writer for Doctor Strange after the film completed its principal production phase, and he wrote material for the film’s “additional photography.” It’s interesting to imagine what a writer like Harmon was brought in to help with. It’s possible he came in to give some scenes a bit more of a humorous edge, since the Marvel films all have their fair share of levity and humor.
The film features a script co-written by director Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, with a story by Jon Spaihts. Doctor Strange finally hits theaters on November 4.
