E3 2016: Star Trek VR Game Detailed
From Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment, the first VR game in the long-standing Star Trek franchise is coming. Titled Star Trek: Bridge Crew, you take part as a member of the USS Aegis, a ship within the current J.J. Abrams Star Trek Universe. The game itself is described as:
“A four-player experience that puts players in the shoes of the captain, or one of the tactical, engineering or helm officers on the starship Aegis.”
Bridge Crew gives you a full 360 experience using the VR headsets, as you’ll both walking about the ship, and interact with nearly everything you see, including “activating the warp drive, scanning foreign objects in space and broadcasting relevant imagery to the ship’s viewscreen.”
As for the mission your crew is partaking in, it coincides with one of the major moments in the Abrams Star Trek movie:
“Aegis is tasked with exploring an uncharted sector of space called The Trench in hopes of finding a suitable new home world for the population of Vulcan.”
The game, according to ABC news, will not only feature combat missions, but also story missions, and randomly generated ones. The true focus of the game is to promote teamwork and to function like an actual crew.
