E3 – E3 Day 2 Rundown
E3 – Day 2
Following the rundown of all the information from Day 1 at E3, we take a look at the events of Day 2 in our E3 Day 2 Rundown. Here goes …
Nintendo Conference
Nintendo kicked off their E3 ‘Digital Event’ with a strange trailer comprising of Reggie Fils-Aime as a puppet type character – he went on to fight Satoru Iwata on Super Smash Bros. Confirmation was given that you will now be able to fight as your Mii on Super Smash Bros upon release and Mii fighters com in 3 styles – brawler, gunner and sword fighter. Palutena from Kid Icarus was also confirmed as a playable character during the conference. A brief showreel showed some of the mini games that will also be included in the 3DS release of the game. Nintendo announced their NFC figures will be called Amiibo – these can be used to provide extra content to games, much like Skylanders. The first game to make use of them will be Super Smash Bros allowing extra characters into the game when an Amiibo is pressed onto the gamepad.
Another upcoming title was shown – Yoshi’s Wooly World, which is an indirect, spiritual follow up to Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Captain Toad Treasure Tracker was the next game on show, which looked a lot like a Toad version of a Super Mario game – Luigi had one, so maybe this will be a recurring feature for Nintendo now. Without doubt the highlight of Nintendo’s event was the extremely brief trailer for an open world Zelda on the Wii U, which can be seen here. The video appears to be in game footage, and looks absolutely stunning – it releases on the Wii U at some point in 2015 and will no doubt give a lot of people an extremely compelling reason to purchase a Wii U!
A release date for the 3DS Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes was given as November 21. They also showed this new trailer for the 3DS remakes of Gameboy Advance games. Next up was news on Bayonetta 2 – including a more in depth look at combat for the Wii U exclusive and the confirmation that the game will include the original Bayonetta for Wii U on disc – 2 games for the price of one is always a good thing! The games will release on Wii U in October, although a specific date was not given.
Nintendo moved on to take another look at upcoming game Hyrule Warriors. The release date for the game will be September 26 and it’s looking pretty sharp. Princess Zelda, Link and Midna were all confirmed to be playable characters when the game launches. A new game called Splatoon was revealed – it’s a Wii U exclusive 4vs4 multiplayer title involving spraying ink everywhere to claim territory. It looks like it could be an interesting competitive online Wii U title – the trailer also showed how you can merge with the paint to traverse the level quickly which looks as if it can add an urgency to the play.
The game previous announced simply as X was given a proper title – Xenoblade Chronicles. The title may be the same, but this game is not a remake of the Wii game but a new title exclusive to the Wii U and will be released in 2015. Nintendo also showed Mario Maker before it finished off – this will allow Wii U games to create and share their own Mario levels, this will also release in 2015 and could potentially expand the value and replayability of Super Mario titles on Wii U if there’s a strong, creative community producing great levels.

Sony unleashed a selection of trailers at E3, all of which can be found with more information about each game at the Official PlayStation Blog. First up was a free-to-play action MMO called Kingdom Under Fire II – it looks like an action-centered real time strategy game as you can control your army and the playable character at the same time which is potentially an interesting concept. Sony let out an official E3 trailer for the recently released MMO RPG Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. As reported on PopGeeks – there was the first teaser for the new Doom game, along with a date when more will be revealed. There’s a lot of talk around Assassin’s Creed: Unity – specifically that none of the 4 playable characters from the co-operative demo are female. It’s upset a lot of people and there’s a petition online trying to force Ubisoft’s hand to change the game and add a female character, as I type this there are already some 4,815 signatures on it. Rainbow Six Siege producer Sebastien Labbe seems to have let slip that the game will receive a beta in an interview with OXM.
So there you have it … the E3 Day 2 Rundown is done with plenty covered and plenty to see. Stay tuned for more E3 news throughout the week!
