Elizabeth Banks Cast as Rita Repulsa in Power Rangers Movie
The cast of the upcoming, live-action Power Rangers movie has confirmed not only that Rita Repulsa will be the villain, but who is playing her. Elizabeth Banks, who most recently starred and directed the big hit in Pitch Perfect 2, will portray the famous Power Rangers villain. You can check out the announcement of the casting on the official Power Rangers twitter account below.
This rounds out the main cast of heroes and now the main villain. Banks joins the cast alongside Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin and Becky G. The upcoming film adaptation is directed by Dean Israelite from a script by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, with Power Rangers creator Haim Saban producing the film with Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur. With the cast assembled, and the release date a little over a year out, the film will have to go into production soon.
So it looks like the first movie will basically adapt the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, since it’s using the Morphin character names plus the original villain. Hopefully this means that if it’s successful, Lord Zedd will make an appearance in the sequel. The new Power Rangers movie will hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
