Game Of Thrones Spinoff Series Possible Says RR Martin
Rumors have been running rampant about whether the ever popular Game of Thrones series is nearing its end on HBO. This has been fueled by the show runners who believe that may only have 10 or so episodes left to tell after Season 06 is done. Which has led fans to wonder if Game of Thrones could get a spinoff series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator George RR Martin says that’s a distinct possibility:
“There is certainly no lack of material,” Martin tells EW. “Every episode of The Naked City – one of the television shows I watched as a kid – ended with a voice-over: ‘There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them.’ There are eight million stories in Westeros as well … and even more in Essos and the lands beyond. A whole world full of stories, waiting to be told… if indeed HBO is interested. The most natural follow-up would be an adaptation of my Dunk & Egg stories.”
Dunk & Egg are set in Westeros, but 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Which could allow for fun mentions of the lands and possible future characters. Martin even notes how the books, which there are three at present, could be presented in television format:
“Each of the novellas could easily be done as a two-hour stand-alone movie for television; that would probably be the ideal way to do them, rather than as an ongoing weekly series,” Martin says. “The Hedge Knight and its sequels are lighter [in tone] than A Song of Ice and Fire, more in the realm of action/adventure.”
Game of Thrones Season 06 airs April 24th.
