Geoff Johns Has Faith in Supergirl Series
Fans are fickle at times. For the record, fans are entitled to be. Yes, we’ve had plenty of epic things come our way, but we’ve had just as many possibly epic things fail. It’s a balancing act to be fair. Sometimes, our judgment gets in the way. That goes especially for the “first impressions” rule. Many a fan let their voice be heard at the first true reveal of the Supergirl series coming to CBS. The first look showed a rather romantic-comedy show instead of a superhero epic like Arrow and Flash (keeping it DC). Fans are worried, some have even seen the pilot (internet leaks everyone!) and are still worried. One man who’s not? Geoff Johns. Who had this to say about fans reactions to the first look (via IGN):
“Everyone deserves to have a reaction, but at the end of the day, I believe in the pilot, I believe in the show. When people see the pilot, they’re going to be blown away.”
He then equated the reaction to the first look fans got of Flash. More specifically, the reaction to Grant Gustin playing Barry Allen and the first glimpse of the Flash suit. He added:
“When they first saw his suit, when we cast [Flash actor] Grant [Gustin], people were like, ‘That’s not the Flash!’ and now people are like, ‘Oh my god, he is the Flash!’ I’m so proud of that show and — in so many ways the Flash was my favorite character growing up — to see it realized and to see people embracing it. And it truly is a Flash TV show, we’re not shying away from anything. We jokingly said, yeah we’re doing Gorilla Grodd and I think people were like, ‘Okay…’ Yeah, no, we’re doing Gorilla Grodd! And we’ve got a lot of great plans for Supergirl in the same vein as that.”
So Johns seems to be satisfied with where things are headed for Supergirl. For fans? It may still be a while, if at all.
