Guardians of The Galaxy Females To Get Bigger Toy Line
Believe it or not, there is a rather unfortunate trend happening in the comic book world. Mainly that female comic characters aren’t getting the toy line recognition of their male counterparts. This started when Black Widow, despite having been in multiple movies, was only getting limited toys baring her name and image. Then, for Guardians of the Galaxy, only limited toys of Gamora and Nebula were made, despite them being key parts in the story. Now, in a response on Facebook, James Gunn promises that’s going to change:
“I’m making sure this time around the female characters are more represented in the toy world. Not only Gamora, but Mantis, Nebula, and Elizabeth Debicki’s character as well.”
Marvel appears to also being stepping up their game on this, as they released a press statement about this as well.
“As affinity and awareness for the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise and its characters continues to grow by leaps and bounds, we are building out a much larger merchandising program to meet the increasing demand from fans…there will be a much stronger focus on Groot, who proved to be the breakout character from the first film,” he said.
We’ll just have to see how much of a line they make for the sequel when it releases in 2017.
