Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Gets New Costumes
The look of characters throughout a movie is very important, as usually they don’t wear the same clothes every scene, with some exceptions of course. For movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, there are legions of costumes that have to be made.
Then, for the sequel, you don’t want the costumes to feel stagnant, so they have to be adjusted. Or new outfits have to be made. Costume Designer Judianna Makovsky talked to IGN about this task:
“You learn what works and what doesn’t work, and you hold onto the things that were really successful, and you change the things that weren’t,” she told IGN of the process of designing for a sequel. “The story changes. They’re in different planets, they’re in different places, they’ve added seven million more characters. You do definitely put your own stamp on it. In that one, we used, I think, four characters’ [designs] that are from the first movie, but then we changed others, we created a new planet.”
She notes that the most important aspect at times was James Gunn’s visions for characters and settings:
“He has a certain sensibility of what he likes and what he doesn’t,” she said. “That’s a challenge on all these films. You’re taking things from other movies, but your directors have a vision of what they want, and how do you adapt all that to their world? It’s interesting. With these films, you really have to be a team player. It’s never about you.”
