Halo 5: Guardians will be launching on the Xbox One in October. While there had previously been speculation that the title would release in the fall of this year, Microsoft has finally given a specific date for the latest instalment in their hit series. Players will be able to get their hands on the game from October 27.
The announcement, which was made via the Xbox official Twitter account, was followed by two separate trailers – one featuring Sergeant Locke and the other Master Chief. The game is set to depart from the traditional formula used in the series, with players not just taking on the role of the series protagonist Master Chief but also as Locke as he searches for the hero following the events of Halo 4.
A beta for the multiplayer component of the game was made available on the Xbox One to those who had purchased Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It featured a number of new game modes and maps and made a favorable impression on many fans. This was mainly due to the faster paced gameplay and new game mechanics that kept the experience fresh.
Microsoft also began a new Twitter hashtag, #huntthetruth, to get players discussing the game and searching for clues about its plot. Previous Halo games have used similar marketing techniques in the past such as the Cortana Letters or the alternate-reality game ILOVEBEES.
