Hollywood’s Next Lara Croft Has Been Chosen
It’s been rumored for years that Hollywood wants to give the Tomb Raider movie franchise another shot, after their first attempt sputtered out at two films. The new, critically acclaimed Tomb Raider games from Square-Enix have inspired them to try something similar with the next movie: a prequel, starring a green, fresh-out-of-the-mansion Lara Croft.
The past few weeks, the story has been that the studio was looking at Daisy Ridley to fill the role, which would have been fine. But it turns out the honor goes to Alicia Vikander…..wait, who?
She’s been around — you just haven’t been paying attention. Vikander has been seen in “The Danish Girl,” “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and as the bot-girl in “Ex Machina.” Her next role, playing opposite Matt Damon in the next Bourne movie, is already in the can and coming out this summer. Warner Bros. says despite the Ridley rumors, Vikander was always their first choice for Lara.
The new Tomb Raider movie will be directed by a man named “Roar.”
