IDW Set to Release New M.A.S.K. Comic Series
It looks like Hasbro and IDW Publishing will continue their partnership as IDW will create a new comic book series based on another classic Hasbro toy property in M.A.S.K. IDW Publishing officially announced this week that the new M.A.S.K. comic will debut later this year from writer Brandon Easton (Transformers: Deviations) and artist Tony Vargas (Rot & Ruin).
Speaking on the announcement, IDW Managing Editor David Hedgecock stated in the press release, “We are so proud to be able to continue growing the impressive relationship between IDW Publishing and Hasbro with this new M.A.S.K. comic series. We can’t wait to bring the high-octane, unique, brand of storytelling to this book that we know fans of M.A.S.K. will expect!”
According to IDW, the new comic will bring the property into the new century and preserve the qualities that fans loved about the original. However, the new series will be infused with more modern sensibilities. The IDW hopes to present a contemporary version of M.A.S.K. to fans in a unique, but familiar, way.
Hasbro Head of Global Publishing Michael Kelly added on the news: “We’ve had tremendous success with IDW over the years in re-launching classic brands for a contemporary audience, while still paying appropriate homage to their origins. We are thrilled to welcome a new team to this library of heroes, as M.A.S.K. joins the ranks of JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS, MICRONAUTS, and THE TRANSFORMERS.”
The comic will debut in November as an ongoing series. The cover artwork will be drawn by Tommy Lee Edwards. You can get a look at some sample artwork for the comic below.
