Jaden Smith Rumored to Play Static Shock
When Will Smith was cast as Deadshot for Suicide Squad, there was an in-joke that he did it with a caveat that his son, Jaden Smith, would be cast in a superhero role himself. Not so long before (and after) this happened, it was rumored that Jaden Smith was going to be cast as Virgil Hawkins, aka Static Shock, in a live-action series that will air digitally via WB’s Blue Ribbon imprint.
Well, if one actor is to be believed, Jaden may have just been confirmed to be Static Shock. Tyler James Williams (who also has been rumored for certain superhero roles) was doing an interview with Flicks and the City (which you can see below) and said the following things:
“I don’t know… What you’re taking about,” Williams says to Flicks And The City with a knowing smile. “But yeah no, it’s great to see Static Shock is happening with Jaden.”
Now obviously no confirmation has come from anyone attached to the project, but it’s curious that he would say this if he didn’t KNOW that it was for real.
No doubt some fans will be a little nervous about this. Static Shock is a beloved character, in fact he had a very popular TV series on Kids WB that many a fan still remembers fondly (including myself). Static was also one of the staples of the Milestone Comics brand. He has a certain personality about him, one that many don’t think Jaden Smith can replicate. So if this is true, fans will certain be making their voice heard very soon.
