Jason Momoa Says There Won’t Be Any Jokes About Aquaman Soon
Aquaman is a character in DC Comics history that has received numerous jokes and cliches over the years. Which is surprising, when you consider that he’s actually a character that’s been prominent for many decades. Yet the jokes continue. Some are about his ability to communicate with fish and get them to do what he wants. Others are about how certain interpretations of him depict Aquaman as weak and feeble, and not on the level of characters like Superman and Wonder Woman, where he actually clearly is.
There has been however a movement in numerous forms of media to help wipe out the jokes about Aquaman. In DC Comics, Aquaman got a massively powerful story by Geoff Johns in the New 52. One that is definitely the standard bearer for all Aquaman stories. In fact, the Aquaman series was so popular right out of the gate that it cracked the Top 10 for a month or two of best selling comics.
Then in the films, there was an Aquaman-focused animated movie, and now of course Jason Momoa is playing him in the upcoming slate of DC live-action films. He did a panel at Fan Expo and stated that there won’t be jokes about Aquaman very soon…
“It’s cute and funny, people make fun of him, there’s a bunch of jokes about him, but I’m like, ‘Just wait. Let’s just wait a little bit, and then you can make jokes,'” the actor said while still keeping things close to the chest on film specifics.
I think he may be right, but what about you? We may find out in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25th.
