Jurassic World Headed For a $100 Million Dollar Opening Weekend
In the age of summer blockbusters, how a movie fairs in its opening weekend usually says how well the movie will do over the course of its life. For example, Age of Ultron and Furious 7 both had huge openings, and they continue rise through the ranks of the highest grossing movies ever. Then you have movies like Mad Max: Fury Road and Tomorrowland. While not failures at the box office, they didn’t get mega-huge numbers, which makes many wonder whether they’ll be a true success in regards to profits for their studios.
One of the most anticipated movies of the summer (now that Age of Ultron has come and gone) is Jurassic World, the return of the fan beloved franchise from Steven Spielberg. Even though Spielberg is only the Executive Producer this go round, and the movie stars Chris Pratt (who’s got big cred thanks to Lego Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy), it’s clear to some that Jurassic World is heading for a big opening weekend.
In fact, the analysts at Variety believe the film will easily top $100 million at the box office in its first few days. If so, this’ll continue the trend of recent mega-successes at the box office, which we didn’t have many of last year in regards to triple-digit openings.
The only two that did that last year? Transformers: Age of Extinction and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1.
