UPDATE: Jurassic World Officially The Biggest Worldwide Opening Ever, Passed Avengers Domestically
UPDATE: Before, we reported that Jurassic World was the biggest opening ever in the scale of worldwide releases, but only second domestically behind the original Avengers. Well now, Variety reports that Jurassic World actually usurped Avengers, and now is No.1 both at home and abroad.
With an amazing $209 million dollars, it beat Avengers by roughly $2 million, making it the biggest opening ever, period. Dinosaurs still rule the earth
Original story:
Just when you think that superhero movies are going to claim every single box office record in history, dinosaurs come back from the dead and take that honor away from them. Jurassic World absolutely crushed it at the worldwide box office. Netting an unbelievable $511.8 million dollars according to TheWrap. By comparison, the previous record holder was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $483.2 million. So Jurassic World beat that by essentially $30 million dollars.
This is an astonishing number, especially when you consider it’s been over a decade since the last Jurassic Park movie was released, and many believed then that the franchise was dead and done. However, because of good writing, good trailers, and incredibly positive reviews, the movie smashed through expectations and records. If you’re curious what it made domestically, it had the biggest US opening ever with $209 million dollars earned. That beat The Avengers, which crossed $207 million on its opening weekend.
So, where does Jurassic World go from here? Well, a sequel is not only obvious, but basically a guarantee. To not have one would be financially insane given how this one turned out. Let’s just hope they take good care with the sequel because many a fan remember how “messy” The Lost World was.
