Lost Amiga Game From 1993 Discovered And Now For Sale
In 1993 four Swedish teenagers programmed a space shmup for the Amiga computer called Shenandoah: Daughter of the Stars. The project fell through when the game was nearly completed, and the title never saw release.
Its assets were thought lost forever until one of the programmers discovered an old box in his basement labeled “Amiga Stuff.” The contents included floppies with everything relating to Shenandoah: Daughter of the Stars on it. Elated to rediscover a piece of his lost youth, Krister Karlsson resolved to complete the game and publish it, as-is, 23 years later.
Retitled 1993 Space Machine, the game is now optimized to run on modern PCs, but uses the same limitations it would have on the Amiga. Only a certain number of objects appear on screen at any given time, and no more than 32 colors can be displayed onscreen at once. Now available on Steam, 1993 Space Machine costs $11.69 (at least for the first week; it’s discounted at 10% off until April 4). An XBox version is also in development, with no upgrades in graphics.
