Microsoft apologizes PC footage of The Witcher 3 in Xbox One Trailer
Microsoft has issued an apology after it used PC footage of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in a trailer advertising the game on the Xbox One. The error was noticed when fans realized that the trailer showed footage of the game running at 60 frames per second and at a resolution of 1080p, something that the Xbox One version cannot do.
Only the PC edition of the game is capable at running at that performance. The PlayStation 4 version will have a resolution of 1080p but its framerate is limited to just 30fps. Having PC footage in the Xbox One trailer angered viewers who felt Microsoft were deliberately trying to misrepresent how the game would run on their console compared to other platforms.
Speaking in an official statement to Eurogamer, a spokesperson said:
“This morning we posted a new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to our YouTube channels featuring footage provided by CD Projekt Red that was captured from the PC version of the game and may not be reflective of final Xbox One gameplay.
“This was in no way intended to misrepresent the title on Xbox One. We have updated the description of the asset to make clear the source and platform of this footage. We apologise for any confusion and look forward to the game arriving on both Xbox One and PC on May 19, 2015.”
Microsoft however has not changed the trailer to show only Xbox One footage of the game. Instead, they have applied a description to the YouTube page that details the fact that the video was taken from the PC version of the game. It now reads: “In game footage provided by CD Projekt Red, captured on a PC.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is due to launch on all platforms on May 19 and will continue he story from The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
