Mighty No. 9 Has a Release Date, For Real This Time
Back in the day, Capcom put out Mega Man games as frequently as the rain. If you finished the latest one, you just waited a month and another new one would appear. Then creator Keiji Inafune had to strike out on his own, and fans had to find out the hard way how long it takes to churn out a game without a massive corporation backing you up.
Mighty No. 9, Inafune’s spiritual successor to Mega Man, was announced back in September of 2013 and funded ten times over by a massive Kickstarter campaign. It was originally intended as a PC-exclusive title, but then every single stretch goal was hit, and Inafune had to make compatible versions for Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. All these extra platforms, plus the promises made in the other stretches, delayed the game severely.
It’s now been delayed three times. Its release date was February 9, 2015, then September 2015, and then pushed into 2016, where we have our new date. But this time, Inafune promises the game WILL come out — because it’s done! It’s “gone gold,” as they say, and all that’s left is to prep the game for release.
“This is a project where everyone’s passions were combined in order to create something very special, and we are looking forward to delivering the final product to everyone who was involved,” Inafune wrote to his overly patient audience. “There can be no stronger connection between game creators and game fans.”
No matter what machine you have, you’ll be able to play Mighty No. 9. Be sure to pick it up!
