Need For Speed Movie Getting Sequel
So people have proven recently that they like movies with fast cars. Especially ones driven with precision, and used to make stunts that boggle the mind. Furious 7 alone showed that when it grossed nearly $400 million dollars over the weekend.
Last year though, another car franchise tried to speed their way into the box office records, Need For Speed, based off of the best-selling video game franchise. Results? Mixed. It didn’t do well stateside, but overseas it grossed over $200 million. Apparently, that’ll be enough to get a sequel.
There’s a twist though, the sequel would be set in China, and would be made by China Movie Channel Program Center, Jiaflix Enterprises and 1905 Pictures. EA has apparently signed off on this, and both want Dreamworks in on this as well.
“We are excited to work with EA, one of the world’s most recognized creative companies,” said Yin Cao, chairman of China Movie Channel. “We are also delighted that much of ‘Need for Speed 2′ would be filmed in China, and we believe it will include much more Chinese talent and elements.”
Cao isn’t the only one excited about this new partnership and potential launch of the series, as Jiaflix president Marc Ganis predicted the rise of “one of the next great franchises for movie fans around the world.”
Bold, but will they be able to back it up? We’ll have to wait and see. No word yet on whether they wish to include some of the original movies stars into the film.
