New Rumors Suggest Nintendo NX Could Be Region-Free
Although Nintendo have yet to officially reveal the Nintendo NX, more and more information is beginning to come out about the upcoming console thanks to leaks. This is likely due to the fact that development kits are making their way to studios.
The latest rumor concerns the fact the new hardware won’t be region-locked, meaning that games bought anywhere in the world will be able to be played on any version of the console. According to Let’s Play Video Games, sources have revealed that early development kits can run software from any region.
Obviously, the information has not been verified by Nintendo but it would make some sense for the NX. Many modern pieces of hardware are beginning to move away from forcing consumers to buy games from the same region as the console and while most Nintendo consoles have been region locked in the past, their handheld devices have largely been open to play titles from any location.
This move would be particularly interesting to Nintendo fans as many of their games often only come to certain markets. Having the Nintendo NX as a region-free console would allow players to import unreleased games and play them on their hardware without having to buy a separate machine.
