Nintendo Caves, Offers Small-Sized New 3DS
Back when the New 3DS — an upgraded version of the original handheld with facetracking 3D, advanced processing speed and a second analog stick — was announced, it was revealed in two sizes, like the original 3DS had been sold. Then it turned out the smaller size would not be sold in North America. Due to the bigger size selling more copies in the US, Nintendo of America decided to ditch the smaller version entirely.
There was an immediate outcry from those who preferred the smaller size. They wanted a 3DS that fit in their pockets and they wanted the custom interchangeable faceplates, which was a feature unique to the small New 3DS. But the company did not budge in their decision — until now.
A special bundle has been announced for the US market for Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer that includes the small model of the New 3DS as well as two sets of Animal Crossing faceplates. It’ll retail for $219.99 and hit stores September 25, less than a month away.
Currently the Happy Home Designer bundle is the only legitimate way to get the small New 3DS in America. There has been no announcement of a separate unbundled release, nor are there known plans to release more faceplates. But it’s only been one day. Depending on the response to this bundle, there may be more coming.
