Nintendo Reveals Three Super Mario Maker Editions
Nintendo have revealed several different editions of Super Mario Maker that will be available in stores when the game launches on September 11. Although these packages have only been confirmed for Europe, it is likely similar deals will make their way to other territories. In addition to a standard edition pack that simply includes the game and a special art book, there will be two more expensive options. These are a Limited Edition Pack that includes the game, art book and a Classic Colours Mario amiibo and a Premium Edition that includes everything in the other versions of the game but also comes with a 32GB black Wii U.
The idea for Super Mario Maker first arose in 2013 when developers inside Nintendo began to create a tool to be used internally that would help them to create new levels quickly and effectively for future titles. However, they soon realized that the idea would potentially be very interesting to Mario fans would might want to use the tool to create their own unique levels. After pitching the idea to Takashi Tezuka, the game was greenlit and the team set to work on refining the game maker program to make it easier to use and learn.
The game itself will allow users to create their own levels using the styles present in Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U. The different styles can be switched to on the fly, with the physics and enemy behaviour changing according to the appearance being used.
Super Mario Maker will also let players create levels that have never been possible before and add much more customization to maps than is traditionally present in released Mario titles. This includes the ability to stack enemies on top of each other, make them fly, change their spawn points and behaviour or make them larger. Any levels created using the editor can then be played or shared online with other players.
