Olivia Munn Wanted To Be Psylocke So She Could Fight
For some, there is a dark side to looking a certain way. When looks become the reason you are offered roles, it can damper the experience, this goes especially for certain actors and actresses. Olivia Munn was one such person. Who despite having acting chops, seemed to only be offered roles that tailored to her looks rather than deep parts or even action filled ones.
Munn was actually offered the role of Deadpool’s girlfriend in the feature film before it went to Morena Baccarain. But turned it down cause she didn’t want to be in a “girlfriend role”. So when Psylocke came up in X-Men: Apocalypse, she was more interested, as long as it wasn’t eye-candy and was true to the character as she revealed to American Way:
“I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters,” Munn explained, “and I said, ‘Yes [I’ll take the role], as long as you’re not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities.’ And they said, ‘Yes, that’s an important part.’”
Psylocke does indeed appear to be one that connects with her comic counterpart, and is a character many fans are looking forward to seeing when X-Men: Apocalypse arrives May 27th.
