PlayStation 4 Moves Past 30 Million Sales Mark
Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 4 console has sold more than 30 million units as of November 22, exceeding the company’s expectations for this year. The figure means that the console is still outperforming the Xbox One by a significant margin, with some experts stating that it could be double Microsoft’s figures.
This doesn’t just make the most successful console currently on the market, easily beating the Xbox One and the Wii U, but it is actually selling at a faster rate than the PlayStation 2. Figures show that the PlayStation 4 has reached the 30 million mark two months quicker than its wildly popular predecessor.
“We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PlayStation 4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. “We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation.”
The PlayStation 2 eventually went on to become the best-selling video games console of all time. It outstripped all of its competition, including the original Xbox and Nintendo GameCube, by selling more than 150 units in total. This was almost twice as many units as the PlayStation 3 managed to sell in its lifetime from 2006.
