Hollywood has long attempted to bring the story of the dark and violent show, which was created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, for years. The show has a strong pedigree behind it, with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg attached as producers. They also co-directed the pilot. The new series will follow small town Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted man who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that gives him a supernatural power. Along with his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), Jesse goes on a journey to literally find god.
It will be interesting to see the direction the show takes as a TV series and what changes will be made to the story from season to season. In addition, Preacher as a comic book series was very dark, violent and adult. The stories had a lot of edgy, and not to mention disturbing content. Even with The Walking Dead in mind, the show will have to be somewhat sanitized to meet AMC’s broadcast standards. That meansThe show is currently slated to premiere on AMC in mid-2016.
