Rise Of The Tomb Raider Will Come To PS4 In 2016
Microsoft has been boasting for a while about its console exclusivity deal with Square-Enix for Rise of the Tomb Raider. And why wouldn’t it? Exclusives from third parties are hard to nail down.
Even when you DO nail them down, they’re hard to keep that way these days. It turns out Microsoft’s deal to keep the next Tomb Raider game on XBox was only good for one year. A PS4 edition of Rise of the Tomb Raider will be arriving in stores the second it expires, sometime within the holiday season of 2016.
Some people questioned the wisdom of any third party confining their big tentpole game to one console in this kind of market. In an age when every AAA game has to be a blockbuster or it won’t turn a profit, it stands to reason the game has to be available to as wide an audience as possible. Square was aware of this. One year was likely the longest deal Microsoft could arrange and it probably required the exchange of some greenbacks.
If you own both consoles the problem is minimal. But if you just have a PS4, and you don’t mind waiting a year, this doesn’t seem as big a deal as it originally was made out to be.
Oh yeah. If you’re a PC gamer your wait will be even shorter. The deal was for Rise of the Tomb Raider to be CONSOLE exclusive for one year, so it’ll be coming to PCs in early 2016. Booyah!
