Rovio Entertainment Confirms The Angry Birds Movie 2
It looks like there is at least one video game movie that will be getting a franchise of sorts. At an earnings conference, Rovio Entertainment, the creators of the Angry Birds series, have announced that the popular video game will be getting a new movie sequel, which is currently in development. Sony Pictures released the first movie, The Angry Birds Movie, last May.
The Angry Birds movie overall did pretty well. It had a budget of $73 million and made $347 million worldwide and $107 million domestically. It will soon open in Japan on October 1, so it stands to make even more at the worldwide box office.
Speaking on the news, Rovio CEO Kati Levoranta stated: “With the excellent performance of our games portfolio and the fantastic movie, the Angry Birds brand is flying high and we are seeing positive EBIT and cash flow development, while fulfilling our mission to create world class entertainment. We currently have several exciting new games and other projects in development, including new IP, and we have started planning the sequel to The Angry Birds Movie.”
The Angry Birds movie is already out on DVD and Blu-ray as well as iTunes. It will be hitting home video in Europe in September.
