Rumor Suggests New Splinter Cell In The Works
Reports over the last few hours seem to indicate that Ubisoft may be working on a brand new Splinter Cell game. Not only that, but the rumor also suggests that veteran voice actor Michael Ironside will be returning to voice the protagonist and lead character Sam Fisher. The information came from a NeoGAF member who has previously been reliable with releasing accurate data about what the French publisher is working on.
According to a well-placed source, Ironside has confirmed that he is working on a brand new Splinter Cell game and that he has been at Ubisoft’s Toronto studio several times. They also expressed disappointment that the game wasn’t shown at E3, suggesting that this could be because it is very early in development.
Recent times have been something of a revival for the Tom Clancy series of games. Ubisoft released Rainbow Six Siege last year and are currently developing Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. This means that a possible Splinter Cell sequel would fit into this strategy and provide players on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 the opportunity to play a new title in the franchise.
The last Splinter Cell game was the 2013 entry Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, which was the first and only instalment in the entire franchise that featured a different voice actor. Eric Johnson took over the role in place of Michael Ironside as he was unable to commit to performing motion capture for the game. This move was widely criticized by fans and the media, and despite some positive reviews, the game filed to meet Ubisoft’s sales expectations.
