SDCC 2016: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Talks Becoming Negan
At SDCC’s Walking Dead Panel, Jeffrey Dean Morgan talked about what it was like on the set the first few days of him being Negan, the psychotic character from the Walking Dead comic.
Though he was only in the Season 06 finale for about 10 minutes, he had to memorize 12 pages of dialogue, no small feat.
“I was a little bit nervous, kind of, going in,” Morgan says, adding, “but before I walked out I had this weird, kind of, calm.”
“This role for me is something special,” the actor says during a press conference in San Diego.
After the conference, ComicBook.com had the chance to speak with Morgan one and one to hear a bit more about his first few days with the role and how he prepared for it.
“It’s a big scene,” Morgan says. “You’re not gonna be like, ‘Oh, I have to feel that out.’ I felt pretty okay all things considered. I just got thrown in. The first two days, everybody was like, ‘Well, I hope that works out for ya,’ and it really did. It’s amazing. It’s no bullshit that this cast is amazing. It’s a family deal, they’ve got the support, but Negan talks a lot. There’s something about getting Kirkman’s words down and fiddling with it but it’s great. It’s f—ing cool.”
