Spider-Man Will be More “Geeky” in New Upcoming Film
For many roles, especially ones that are established in other media, how they are portrayed is crucial. This goes double for comic book characters, who (for many) have years, if not decades, of stories talking about how they would act or react to certain people and situations. For Spider-Man, though he’s had two different movie franchises (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield), some have thought that there still hasn’t been that full-on on “geeky” portrayal of Peter Parker. Well, if the now confirmed writers of the film are anything to go by, that won’t be the case for much longer.
Talking to NPR, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein discussed how Peter Parker being a geek is very important to the character in the film, and for people to relate to him:
“He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor,” Daley explained. “It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.”
For many Spider-Man fans, this might just be the portrayal that they’ve been waiting for. The new cinematic version of Spider-Man will first appear in Captain America: Civil War, which arrives on May 6, 2016.
