Star Wars: Battlefront Reveal In April
EA is set to reveal Star Wars: Battlefront in April at the Star Wars Celebration event hosted by Disney in Anaheim, CA. The event, which runs from April 16-19, will be the first time that actual gameplay from the game has been shown since it was officially announced last year.
“We’re thrilled to share that Star Wars Battlefront will be taking part in [the event],” said the EA statement. “We could not think of a better or more appropriate place to debut the game officially for the first time than the premier event that celebrates the Star Wars universe and the legions of fans who have fallen in love with it.”
Star Wars: Battlefront began development in 2013 after EA acquired the exclusive rights to develop games based on the Star Wars IP following the acquisition of the franchise by Disney from LucasFilm. It is being developed by DICE, who are responsible for the Battlefield series as well as Mirrors Edge, and will be built on the same Frostbite engine that powers EA’s other games. However, other Star Wars: Battlefront game shave been worked on, including a sequel to Star Wars: Battlefront II by TimeSplitters developer Free Radical Design.
DICE are not the only developer currently working on a Star Wars games. EA has already confirmed that Dead Space studio Visceral Games is working on a title with The Last of US writer and director Amy Hennig playing an important role. BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, are also working on a new game based on the franchise. They have previously worked with the Star Wars license with their hit role-playing title Knights of the Old Republic.
The Star Wars Celebration will certainly be a busy event as it is something of a huge event for the franchise and Disney. Not only is Battlefront on the way, but the company also have a brand new entry in the film series hitting cinemas in December. As well as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney has also revealed the title of a standalone movie called Rogue One, which is likely to be another major focus at the event in April.
