Star Wars Battlefront Will Be Playable First On Xbox One
Xbox executive Aaron Greenberg has revealed that Star Wars Battlefront will be playable exclusively on the Xbox One first. Replying to a question on Twitter, the Microsoft employee confirmed the news, with the game able to be downloaded and played five days earlier than on other platforms through the subscription service EA Access.
Earlier in the month, DICE and EA revealed that Star Wars Battlefront would be officially unveiled at the Star Wars Celebration hosted by Disney in California that will run through April 16-19. It is expected that a release date will be announced at the event along with the reveal of gameplay for the first time.
The fact that Star Wars Battlefront will be available first on Xbox One is a consequence of EA only offering EA Access over that console. The publisher did approach Sony about putting the service on the PlayStation 4 but the Japanese firm did not think it was value for money for its millions of customers and so turned it down. They instead offer similar services through PlayStation Plus.
The subscription based service has already been used to allow users to play several high-profile titles earlier than their official release date. Madden NFL 15 and Dragon Age: Inquisition were both offered as trials for several days before they hit store shelves, with progress saved and able to be carried over to the full versions of the game.
EA Access now has 10 games in The Vault, including big hits such as Battlefield 4, Peggle 2 and Need for Speed: Rivals. Recently, the publisher also began introducing newer sports titles to the catalogue including NBA Live 15, Madden NFL 15 and NHL 15. The company has also revealed in the past that they will never remove a game from The Vault once it has been put in, meaning these games will be free as long as the program continues to operate.
