Star Wars: The Force Awakens Projected for $615 Million Opening Weekend
If there were two big box office surprises this year so far, it what happened with Avengers: Age of Ultron and Jurassic World. The former (based on the previous movie’s performance) was expected to shatter the box office opening weekend records, but instead it took a hit and didn’t do as well as expected. Jurassic World was expected to break $100 million it’s opening weekend domestically, but then shocked everyone by more than doubling that, and making $500 worldwide in its first weekend of release. However, many believe that Star Wars: The Force Awakens may just have Jurassic World beat. After all, this is the first new Star Wars movie in over a decade, and under the helm of J.J. Abrams, with many of the original cast members returning. There is the hope of the return of Star Wars glory in full, so it’s not hard to surmise it’ll do well. But how well exactly?
Well, Deadline took in some estimates, and put together a predication that Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens will make $615 million dollars at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend. Their breakdown is that it’ll get about $300 million domestically and $315 million worldwide. This is a bold predication, especially given that the movie launches on Christmas. This could work in the movie’s favor, or cause it to underperform to a certain degree.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18.
