Crunchyroll’s Full May Schedule Of Acquirements

The takeover of the Funimation library was not instantaneous. Due to contractual complications, not everything that’s on the Funimation app can cross over to the Crunchyroll app right away, and that’s the main reason why the Funi app is still a thing. They’re getting there, though. This month’s Crunchyroll release schedule heralds the arrival of many shows that were once Funi exclusives. Classics like Trigun and Initial D, cult faves like Space Dandy and Black Lagoon, and assorted other things like RE-MAIL and Link Click will be appearing on the menu over the next four weeks. The latter seasons of Fairy Tail are also debuting their dubs on Crunchyroll along with two seasons of ISEKAI QUARTET. Tribe Nine is an anime currently running through its first season on Funimation. Set in Neo-Tokyo, it’s about the disillusioned youth of the future who form tribes that battle each other in a sport that’s sort of like baseball but more “extreme.” When other tribes start falling at the hands of a mysterious opponent, Tribe Nine (consisting of protagonists Haru Shirogane, Taiga, and Shun Kamiya the “strongest man in the world”) decide they must find a way to defeat him. Attack On Titan is running though its final episode run as we speak, but up to this point it’s been exclusively the sub version of the show. Anime purists would say “who cares.” Toonami would say “we do, we had to run on fumes all December.” But there’s finally news on the dub front: the first English voiced episode of Attack On Titan: The Final Season Part 2 will premiere Sunday, February 13. Attack On Titan’s FINAL final season is just starting this month, but the first half of the season (which premiered last year) is finally making its way to physical home formats. The Blu-Ray set for Attack On Titan: The Final Season Part 1 was announced this morning for a February release. After a full decade, one of the more successful manga and anime properties in recent history is finally wrapping it up. Attack On Titan will premiere the first of its final batch of episodes this coming Sunday, both in Japan and in the US courtesy of Funimation. In case you’re wondering why the Final Season has taken so long, and why it was released in two parts, it’s because everything had to wait for the manga to finish. The absolutely final volume of Attack On Titan wasn’t released until April of 2021. The anime can’t move faster than that, nor can it produce useless filler to stall for time because new anime shows don’t really do that anymore. Funimation has revealed their full list of titles coming to their app this winter. There are over 20 shows on the way, from established favorites to complete newcomers. You can of course expect more episodes of One Piece, and the return of Demon Slayer, but there are also plenty of more obscure offerings like “Sabikui Bisco,” a post-apocalyptic search for a miracle curing mushroom starring a young doctor and a…giant crab. Two series involve characters who reluctantly have to rule fantasy kingdoms — in “How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom” a man from our world becomes king of theirs and attempts to reform their government using rules established in modern times, and in “The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt” the central character was destined to rule from birth, but no longer feels up to it. Plus, Attack On Titan begins running its absolute final batch of episodes next month. All in all it’s a packed winter from Funi. Check out their full list below.

As you know, Attack On Titan will be running its VERY LAST episodes, like EVER, this coming January. But there’s actually more than that. In Japan, eight bonus episodes were created for the OAD market (that’s Original Animation DVD (and that’s what they call Original Animation Video now)). Funi says they’re on the way here as well, and quicker than usual…they’re hitting the app this very Sunday. The episodes take place in and around events from the main series, but explore what other characters happened to be doing at the same time. Good news, folks…Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke finally got that whole Mugen Train problem resolved. It only took an entire feature film to do so. Now they’re at last ready to journey on, and fresh episodes of the Demon Slayer series are about to start airing. Funimation has revealed what they plan to release on home video formats through the rest of 2021. The biggest release of the month is Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, the blockbuster movie from Japan that didn’t too too bad in the States either. Over forty passengers have disappeared without a trace after they boarded the titular train, and Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke are on the case. They are soon joined by one of the most powerful swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps, Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku…but even with him on their side, can they face what they’re up against?
