 Legends of Tomorrow is one of the longest-running shows on CW. It was part of the Arrowverse, and it has been running around for seven seasons. All it needed was one Final Season to wrap things up. The CW is not known for canceling shows. They usually make international deals with Netflix and syndicate their shows to the global market. That strategy helped many of their shows to have completions. After the acquisition by Discovery and Time Warner, things changed. The new management decided to clean house and get rid of shows with low ratings like Batwoman. I rarely had anxiety about cancellations of shows with the CW, but now things have changed. Legends of Tomorrow deserves to have a closure of any form, even if it’s just a crossover episode on Flash. The drop in ratings may have something to do with the oversaturation of Superhero shows, but Legends is more of a time-traveling adventure. It’s been a rough last few months, but it looks like everything’s gonna be alright, now that Legends of Tomorrow is returning in less than a week. It remains the best of the Arrowverse shows not just because it’s lighter in tone, not just because it takes the most chances, but because no other series is quite as good at creating bold, dynamic, lovable characters you like almost instantly. It got to an unavoidably late start, but The CW’s “fall” season is finally in full swing. Stuff that ordinarily would have premiered in September or October instead began running in January, and half the network’s shows haven’t even premiered their new seasons yet. You know what this means…we’re pushing into the summer. We finally know when our beloved Legends of Tomorrow will finally come back to us: May 2, and it’s being given the prime slot of Sundays at 8! To make room Batwoman will be pushed back an hour, and Charmed will be shoved down into Fridays again (it actually received better ratings on Friday than it has so far on Sunday, go figure). Riverdale is being replaced April 7 by a revival of the Carradine Kung Fu series, which we still know almost nothing about, except that there will be kung and maybe some fu. Good ol’ CW. Their shows may not be the best on television, but among our endless choices for entertainment these days, they’re the only place in the whole world where you can start a show and feel confident that it won’t be abruptly cancelled with no warning. Every year The CW is the first to announce its renewals, and every year they renew EVERYTHING, with the exception of shows that are leaving on their own terms. If only they could all be like this (Netflix, I’m glaring at you). They were kind of lost in the noise of San Diego Comic-Con, but The CW put out fresh trailers for nearly all of its DC superhero lineup over the weekend. (The exception was Black Lightning, which doesn’t return until midseason.) Some of them show more clips than others depending on how much has been shot so far and how much effects work needs to be done. We thought we’d heard all the casting news from the upcoming season of Legends of Tomorrow, but something new came across our desk today: Courtney Ford has had her role bumped up to regular for Season 4. Ford plays Nora Dahrk, daughter of Damien Dahrk — the main supervillain of Season 3. Damien may have been evil, but he had a soft spot for his daughter, and sacrificed himself to save her life. But what role will Nora play now — good or evil? Will her heart melt for Ray Palmer, played by Brandon Routh? (Probably….he’s Ford’s husband in real life.) It’s the third confirmation that a character will be appearing in nearly all the episodes. Previously it was announced that Matt Ryan had gained a regular role as Constantine, and that Jes Macallan would be making regular appearances as Ava Sharpe. When Legends of Tomorrow returns for its fourth season this fall, Kid Flash won’t be one of the characters on it — despite his migration from The Flash to Legends being set up this previous season. In fact, he won’t be on The Flash either, nor Arrow or anywhere else. And the reason for this is because his actor, Keiynan Lonsdale, has decided to take a break. When the original actress for Vixen wasn’t available for Legends, they solved the issue by pulling in a Vixen from a different time period. But there’s only one Wally West, unfortunately. When the fourth season of Legends of Tomorrow (newly confirmed by The CW) begins this fall, Constantine won’t be the only character you’ll be seeing more of. Actress Jes Macallan has been promoted to series regular and her character of Ava Sharpe will be appearing in nearly every episode. One of the highlights of Season 3 has been the character growth for many figures on the show.
